Championship!
I may not be much of a sports fan, but that was one unbelievable basketball game and to be able to down a three-point shot with 2.1 seconds left and pull KU out of a 9 point deficit to a win just makes me say: “Mario Chalmers, you are my new hero!”
And it makes the people of Lawrence — 40,000 of us in a town of less than 100,000 — do this:
I’ll take it!
As they say round here, ROCK CHALK!

Yeh, Chalmers is good player, but not the better one I think

There may well be better players. But in the split second that mattered, when all the pressure in the world was on, Chalmers was the one who made that shot.
I admire that ability to have such self control, calm and poise in a moment of maximal stress. So when I say he’s my hero it’s not because there’s no better ball player, it’s because he exemplified a kind of self-controlled unwillingness to imagine defeat combined with the ability to make defeat not happen. And he did it with a smile and what looked t be very little ego.
